Mr. Wrong and Mrs. Right.

[Pause]

It sums up most marriages I know of.

Now don't misunderstand. I'm not saying that most marriages are a mismatch. I'm just saying that most guys marry way beyond themselves, which basically means that we spend a lot of time learning from our mistakes and trying to say "Yes Dear" often enough to stay in our lady's good graces.

At least if we want things staying happy.

But Brian and Mandy aren't that way. Now, today is supposed to really be Mandy's day, so believe me that I'm not putting her down by saying that Brian didn't marry beyond himself. But the fact is, Brian and Mandy aren't any marriage of Right and Wrong. They're the marriage of a team.

I know this only because I've spent my life growing up with Brian. We used to build tree forts together, and go fishing. And Brian used to tell people he'd got the biggest catch -- which was partly true, but deceptive. He usually hooked some sort of underwater log.

We went to high school together, and I was always amazed by Brian because, although he was something of a lady's man -- hope I'm not getting you in trouble here, Brian -- although he always had sort of a gaggle of interested ladies around him, he seemed to know how to treat all of the girls with respect and kindness, rather than taking advantage of their interest the way a lot of guys would.

Brian dated plenty of girls too, but you know … they always broke things off on friendly terms because it was never a matter of one person doing the other wrong, but just the discovery that they were better off as friends.

It's that quality of being a gentleman, of caring for others, that I knew made Brian the right kind of guy for marriage. The kind of guy who wouldn't be like a puppy dog needing training by his future wife. The only thing lacking was a woman who could be more than a friend to Brian -- a woman he would share the Magic with. Mandy is that woman. And in fact, I know as Brian's best friend that she's the only gal he's had that Magic with. She carries with her something special -- something everyone around her feels. And Brian is the lucky guy she's decided to share that with.

Now, I'm not going to try coloring things by saying that -- besides being a gentleman -- Brian ever really did anything to deserve such a gem. I'm still trying to figure out how he's pulled this off. But it's one of the nicest magic tricks I've ever seen, especially because I've become such good friends with Mandy. That means I don't lose a friend to marriage, but I've got one more buddy to hang out with.

Brian and Mandy -- you're the kind of team many of us should learn from, and I know that bodes well for all of your future days together. I want to thank you both for being so important in my life, and I wish you all the years of happiness that you've truly already earned.

Thank you.
